Travel Teams for 7 and 8 year olds

7U/8U Travel Baseball (Tigers, Royals, Cats)

For those interested in participating in travel baseball at this level, I wanted to announce that the baseball board overwhelmingly voted to align our travel program with the high schools, starting at 7U and 8U for the 2012 season. Until the past board meeting, the "split" as it is often referred, began at the 5th grade level.  What we have found, there is frustration at aligning with the high schools after teams have (for the most part) been able to play together from 7U to 10U and then have to separate.  By aligning at 7U, the opportunity exists for teams to develop together without ever having to divide when they are older.

The concept of aligning with the high schools all the way through our travel program has been in discussion for years.  The structure of our 7U and 8U program will consist of a Tigers team, a Royals team and a Cats team as our third travel team, if there are enough qualified athletes whom desire to participate.  We are excited for upcoming years of success for all whom participate in the Fishers-HSE Youth Baseball program.

We appreciate and are encouraged by the support of the baseball coaches of Fishers High School (Coach Matt Cherry) and Hamilton Southeastern High School (Coach Scott Johnson).  They are both excited about the development of future Tigers and Royals baseball players participating in all levels of our baseball program.

Regarding tryouts this weekend, I wanted to clarify a few more points:
- tryouts are SUNDAY, March 18 (sorry for any confusion on the posted date!)
- participation in travel baseball is not required
- travel baseball is voluntary and all whom participate in travel also participate in the recreation program
- 2nd graders whom meet the 7U deadline are encouraged to participate in 8U and stay with their grade

If you have additional questions, please let me know.
